This is Clerch's second visit to Passau since 1999, and watching the Cuban at work is a real pleasure.
He works the body of his guitar with devotion, sometimes appearing like a tender lover who evokes sparkling sounds with gentle touches, then again like a sculptor who has to tap out the structure of the music with a hammer.
This works just as well with the baroque master Bach as it does with contemporary Latin American works.
As contrasting as the music may be - the palette ranges from straightforwardly structured and serious to rhythmically quirky and jazzy - they all have one thing in common: the magnificent virtuosity with which Clerch performs them.
A real feast for the eyes and ears.
