With the tenderness and powerful presence of his tone, the soloist Joaquín Clerch did excellent justice to the rather dark, quiet mood of Leo Brouwer’s work. His incredible technical precision showed impressively in the Concierto’s rhythmic passages, which were inspired by Cuban traditional music without seeming folkloristic.
